Some more facts
71%
Most passengers book travel online or through a mobile app, making the listing experience an important decision point.
32%
Passengers want important travel information brought together during the planning and booking journey.
Decoding Current Listing

What influences flight selection?
80%
When price and schedule are similar, punctuality influences which flight or airline travellers select.
65%
Distance from the airport plays an important role when travellers choose their departure airport.
How might we?
How might we redesign the desktop flight listing experience so travellers can scan & compare flights faster, understand key information clearly and take the next action with confidence, while keeping the page readable and scalable across different flight scenarios?
Defining the New Card Structure

Card Explorations

Structured Comparison
This version creates a fixed horizontal grid for airline, timings, duration, arrival and fare. Consistent alignment makes each result easier to scan and compare.
UX gap: The structure is clear but offers limited guidance on which flight provides better value or reliability.

Contextual Reliability
On-time performance and key benefits are placed closer to the journey details, bringing useful decision cues into the main scan path.
Hierarchy trade-off: Multiple colours and labels begin to compete with the fare and primary action.

Controlled Disclosure
Amenities are grouped into a compact row, while “+3 more” controls overflow and maintains a consistent card height.
Discoverability concern: Icon-only details may need labels or tooltips to remain easy to understand.

Layered Decision Signals
Value and reliability cues appear before the main flight details, helping travellers identify relevant options earlier.
Visual consistency risk: Separate badges create an uneven card edge and may shift across different content states.

Unified Emphasis
Value and reliability cues appear before the main flight details, helping travellers identify relevant options earlier.
Visual consistency risk: Separate badges create an uneven card edge and may shift across different content states.
The final direction combined a fixed comparison grid, controlled disclosure and integrated decision cues. This created a consistent scan path while keeping secondary information available without adding visual clutter.
Beyond Flight Card

Final Design
One Way Listing
The design brings together clearer information hierarchy, better scanability and easier navigation. Filters remain visible on the left, while dates, offers and sorting options are organised into distinct sections that help travellers refine and compare flights with less effort.
Each flight card follows a consistent horizontal structure for airline, timings, duration, stops, fare and actions. The layout adapts across different flight types, benefits and promotional states while keeping the overall experience readable and scalable.

Flight Selection
A quick, in-context view uses progressive disclosure to reveal itinerary and baggage details without breaking the comparison flow.

Interaction
A walkthrough of the key interactions, showing how persistent filters, progressive disclosure and contextual actions help travellers refine results and move towards selection without losing context.
Round Trip Listing
The round-trip experience places onward and return flights in parallel columns, helping travellers compare and select both journeys without losing context. Independent sorting and shared filters make each set of results easier to refine.
A persistent selection summary gives immediate feedback on the chosen flights, combined fare and next actions, reducing memory load while keeping the complete itinerary visible throughout the flow.

In context Flight Details
The expanded panel uses progressive disclosure to show itinerary, baggage and layover information without taking travellers away from the listing page. Tabs keep the onward and return journeys organised within the same view.
A persistent selection summary keeps the chosen flights, combined fare and key actions visible, reducing context switching and supporting a more confident decision.

A persistent summary updates the selected itinerary and combined fare, reducing memory load while keeping the next action accessible.
Design Outcome & Learnings
Faster Comparison
Consistent alignment makes airline, timings, duration, stops and fare easier to compare across flights.
Clearer Decisions
Progressive disclosure and contextual cues reveal useful details without making the listing page feel crowded.
Scalable System
Reusable components support one-way, round-trip, connecting flights, offers and changing content conditions.
